F1 in Schools Challenge

March 22nd, 2014

Hello, I am Darren and I am involved in an extra-curricular project called the F1 in Schools Challenge. This project challenges contenders to design and manufacture a miniature F1 car and, at the same time, produce a pit display, folio and prepare presentations.

I am a member of team ROBUS from Deans Community High School in Livingston. We competed first in Kirkcaldy and came runner up in Scotland which secured us a place at the British Finals, which this year were held at the NEC in Birmingham.

Our main competition was Rapid Input, a team from Dunfermline, as one team from Scotland had to progress to the world finals in Ferrari World in Abu Dhabi.

We felt confident with the way we performed throughout the various tasks but weren’t sure what to expect when we went to the presentation ceremony. We were nominated for one award but didn’t win anything which disappointed us slightly. As we were packing up our pit the chairman, Andrew Denford, approached us and informed us that we were the highest placed Scottish team. This meant that all our hard work had paid off and we were going to go to Abu Dhabi to compete in the World Finals.
